Go for 2–3 days if you ski or want Arctic hiking; skip as a general stop — it's a dead-end mining town 2 h from the main highway.
Kirovsk is a small town in the Khibiny Mountains, founded in the 1930s for apatite mining. Its main draw is a ski resort with runs from mid-November to mid-June, plus summer hiking. The town is a dead end for buses and has no passenger rail — you need a reason to come.
