Sharjah is the UAE's cultural emirate, with museums, an arts foundation and a restored heritage area, Heart of Sharjah. It is adjacent to Dubai and shares a busy road link. Alcohol is not sold, and dress and behaviour rules are applied more strictly than in Dubai. It fits a trip as a day of museums and old souqs, or as a lower-cost base if you commute to Dubai outside peak hours.
