Mangshi is the capital of Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture, a subtropical border town in western Yunnan about an hour by air from Kunming. It is a transit hub toward Ruili and the Myanmar border rather than a destination in itself. One full day covers the pagoda, the ethnic museums and the food; most travellers pass through on the way to Ruili or Tengchong.
