Bad Muskau is a small Saxon spa town on the Neisse, the river that separates Germany from Poland. Its whole reason to exist for a visitor is the Fürst-Pückler-Park, a 19th-century English-style landscape garden of about 830 hectares, listed by UNESCO in 2004 and split between the two countries. One night is enough; two nights only if you want the peat bath, the forest railway and a slow bike day.

Getting around

The town and the park are walkable; the park itself is large enough that a bike helps. Rentals run about €10 per day in season (April–October). The Oder-Neisse Cycle Route passes through, and the Waldeisenbahn heritage railway links the town with Weißwasser on selected days from May to September.

Safety

Very safe. The real issues are practical: no station in town, thin bus service, and services that close outside the season. Watch for cyclists on the shared paths.
  • No regular rail service to Bad Muskau: the nearest served station is Weißwasser, 9 km away, then bus or hotel pickup.
  • Two thirds of the park is in Poland: carry your passport or ID card, spot checks are possible.
  • The visitor's tax is €1.25 (≈ US$2) per person per night, added to your bill.
