Vall de Boí is a Pyrenean municipality of about 1,000 people spread over a string of stone villages, 2 h 30 min by road from Lleida. Its nine Romanesque churches were listed by UNESCO in 2000, and the valley is the western gateway to Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park. Two nights covers the churches and one hike; three if you add Boí-Taüll in winter or the park bus in summer. A car makes it easy; without one you are tied to a handful of daily buses.

Getting around
A car is the practical way to move between villages; the L-500 and L-501 climb the valley. Line 604 runs Pla de l'Ermita–El Pont de Suert three times a day (07:55, 16:05, 18:00 down; 07:15 and 15:20 up), and a summer park bus and a winter snow bus add links. Taxis de la Vall de Boí run 4x4 vehicles into the national park road, which is closed to private cars.

- Church opening hours are short and split into morning and afternoon blocks: check the Romanesque Centre site before you drive between villages.
- The road into the national park is closed to private vehicles; use the park bus or a licensed 4x4 taxi.
- Mountain weather turns fast; carry a shell and water even on short trails.
- Mobile signal is patchy in the side valleys.
- Winter: snow chains or winter tyres are often required on the L-501.
