Port Isabel is the southernmost port on the Texas coast and the gateway to South Padre Island, linked by the 4 km Queen Isabella Causeway. It is small: a lighthouse, three small museums, a fishing fleet and a walkable Lighthouse Square. Most travellers sleep here for one or two nights and spend the days on the island or at the beach, or stop for half a day on the way through the Rio Grande Valley.

Getting around
The town is small enough to walk or cycle: Lighthouse Square and the waterfront are a few blocks. Island Metro runs free buses on three routes between Port Isabel and South Padre Island about every 30 min from roughly 07:00 to 21:00; some buses carry bikes. Metro Connect Blue Line links to Brownsville and the airport. A car helps for Brownsville, the island beaches and the Valley; rental cars here are limited.
