Milford Haven is Pembrokeshire's largest town and one of the UK's biggest ports, built on a grid in 1790 around a deep natural harbour. The docks have been rebuilt for visitors, so the marina, the museum and the Torch Theatre are the draw, not a beach. Most travellers pass through on the way to Pembroke, Skomer or the coast path; one night is enough unless you are here for a boat trip.

Getting around

The town is small and walkable: the station to the marina is about 15 min on foot. Local buses run to Haverfordwest, Pembroke and Tenby, and Pembrokeshire County Council coastal buses serve the coast; check timetables, as many routes are limited or seasonal. A car makes the beaches, Skomer and the coast path far easier; taxis cover short hops.

A small, low-crime town; the real risks are weather on the water, unlit dockside edges at night and fast port traffic on the approach roads.
  • Boat trips and Skomer landings run on weather and season: book ahead and expect cancellations in wind.
  • Skomer puffins are present roughly April to end of July only.
  • Many marina restaurants close early out of season; check before walking over.
