Base here 2 nights for the port city, carnival and Anaga; skip it as a beach base — the south resorts and Puerto de la Cruz do that better.
Santa Cruz is the island capital and its working port, not a resort. Two nights covers the Calatrava auditorium, Plaza de España, the Guanche museum and the market; add a day for Anaga. Most travellers sleep here for one or two nights, then move to the south or Puerto de la Cruz for the beach.
