Stay 1 night only if you have an LAX layover or an early flight; otherwise sleep in Manhattan Beach or Hermosa and visit El Segundo for an afternoon.
El Segundo sits directly south of LAX and is split in two: a small coastal downtown on Main Street with bars and a restored 1920s theatre, and an inland aerospace and office district along Sepulveda Boulevard. Hotels here are cheaper than the beach cities and run free LAX shuttles, which makes it a practical airport base rather than a sightseeing destination. Most travellers need half a day plus one night, not a multi-day stay.

A car is the default: the city is spread along Sepulveda Boulevard (CA-1) and I-405, and walking the main roads is unpleasant. The Metro K Line runs along the eastern edge with Mariposa/Nash and El Segundo/Nash stations; onward connections and any transfer to Inglewood: check before you rely on it. Beach Cities Transit and Metro Micro cover short local hops. Rideshares and taxis are easy to get; LAX surcharges apply.
