Thousand Oaks is the largest city in the Conejo Valley, a low-rise suburb of about 127,000 people between the Santa Monica Mountains and the US 101. There is no rail station and buses run about hourly, so a car is the practical way to see it. Most travellers use it as a quiet, cheaper base for the western Los Angeles edge, Malibu canyon roads and the Ventura County coast.
