Strood is a Medway Towns town on the River Medway in north Kent, joined to Rochester and Chatham. It has a fast rail link to London and a leisure park, but the historic sights and the better hotel and eating choice sit in Rochester, one stop or a short walk away. Strood station (SOO) on Canal Road is the anchor: Southeastern trains to London Charing Cross (65–70 min) and Victoria (75–80 min), and the Javelin high-speed service to St Pancras every 30 min in 30–35 min, with a supplement unless you start outside the London region. Local buses run under Arriva Kent and Surrey, Nu-Venture and ASD Coaches; buy from the driver, or on the Arriva app or by contactless. Traveline and Medway Council publish journey planners and maps. Strood is an ordinary Kent town and safe by day; the usual cautions are unlit riverside paths after dark, weekend drinkers around the High Street, and the fast A2/M2 junctions if you drive.
  • The Javelin high-speed fare carries a supplement unless you travel from outside the London region: check before you tap.
  • Temple Manor opens only in Jul–Aug, Sa Su 10:00–16:00, and entry is free.
  • Ranscombe Farm's car park hours vary; the walking routes are open all year.
