  • North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
  • North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
  • North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
  • Canada ↗Visa-exempt travellers flying to or through Canada usually need an eTA; check your passport on the official Government of Canada site (canada.ca) and apply only there.
  • Canada ↗A Parks Canada pass is needed to stop in national parks such as Banff and Jasper; some spots (for example Moraine Lake) are reached only by shuttle or tour, so book ahead.
  • Canada ↗Keep well away from bears, elk and moose; carry bear spray on Rockies trails and follow trail closures.

Pubnico is a small Acadian village on Nova Scotia's southwest shore, founded in 1653 and still mostly Acadian. It splits into West Pubnico (French-speaking), Pubnico Head (English-speaking) and East Pubnico. Two heritage sites, a fishing wharf, a distillery and a golf course fill a day; most travellers pass through on Highway 103 between Yarmouth and Halifax.

Arrive & move

Airports are listed under At a glance; this is how to move once you are in

Getting around

A car is effectively required: sights sit along Highway 335 and Highway 3, several kilometres apart, with no useful local bus. Pubnico is just off Highway 103 at Exit 31. Straightline Shuttle runs from Halifax; check its current schedule and stops.

See & do

Areas, not hotels: pick the one that fits your arrival time and plans.

West Pubnico and Lower West Pubnico

Closest to the wharf, distillery and museum; the practical base.

Pubnico Head

Along Highway 3 near the ice-cream shop; quieter, still a short drive from the sights.

Yarmouth

About 30–35 min west; more beds, restaurants and services if Pubnico is full.

Watch out

Safety

Very low crime; the real risks are highway driving, fog on Highway 103, and cold water along the shore. 911 works everywhere.
  • Almost everything is seasonal: the Acadian village runs Jun–Sep only, and the museum closes or shortens hours outside summer.
  • Distances between the three Pubnico sections are longer than they look; plan drives, not walks.
  • Cell coverage is fine on the highway but patchy on back roads; download offline maps.
  • Fuel and grocery options thin out east toward Shelburne; fill up in Yarmouth or Pubnico.
