Fallujahالفلّوجة
Fallujah is a half-day stop for the City of Mosques and the ruins of Anbar, but only if you have a local host or guide and your government advice permits travel.
Fallujah, the 'City of Mosques' with over 200 mosques, sits on the Euphrates 65 km west of Baghdad. It was the site of the ancient Jewish Talmudic academy of Pumbedita. The city was heavily damaged in the 2004 US assault and later ISIL occupation; reconstruction is ongoing. Most travellers pass through on the Ramadi–Baghdad train line, stopping for the Abdul-Aziz al-Samarrai Mosque and the ruins of Anbar (Peroz-Shapur).
