Thompson
Give Thompson one night as a rail or road stop between Winnipeg and Churchill; two nights only if you want the Spirit Way walk and a Pisew Falls run.
Thompson is northern Manitoba's service hub, about 13,000 people, built around a nickel mine from 1957. It is not a sightseeing town: the draw is the Spirit Way walkway with its wolf statues and murals, the Heritage North Museum, and its role as the last real stop before Churchill by train or the end of Highway 6 by car. Most travellers pass through in a night.
