London is a small Kentucky city on Interstate 75, halfway between Lexington and Knoxville, with two exits and a strip of chain hotels around them. The reason to stop is the road, not the city: Levi Jackson Wilderness Road State Park, the World Chicken Festival in September and cheap beds break a long drive. Sights are few and spread out, so a car is the practical choice.

Getting around

A car is the practical way to move: the two I-75 exits are about 5 km apart and the park sits south-east of town. Greyhound stops in London on the Lexington–Knoxville line if you arrive without a vehicle. Local taxi and rideshare coverage is thin, so plan evening returns rather than hailing on the street.

Safety

London is a small city and the usual cautions apply: lock the car at interstate hotels, keep to lit areas around the exits at night, and watch for deer on rural roads after dusk.
  • Distances between the exits, the park and the restaurants are driving distances, not walking ones.
  • Alcohol rules are looser than in a dry county but still limited: by-the-drink sales only in larger restaurants, plus packaged sales.
  • Summer afternoons are hot and humid; the park museum and pool are seasonal.
  • Rural roads off the interstate are dark and deer are common after dusk.
