Stamford is a small North Central Plains town founded by Swedish immigrants, known for the Texas Cowboy Reunion (the 'World's Largest Amateur Rodeo') and Lake Stamford. Most travellers pass through on US 277 between Abilene and Wichita Falls. The main attraction is the Museum of the West Texas Frontier; the rodeo and lake are seasonal draws. One hour covers the museum; a half-day includes lunch and a lake stop.
