East Midlands Railway runs hourly from London St Pancras via Leicester and Derby, with a journey time of about 1 h 45 min. Its best-known landmark is the twisted spire of St Mary's Church; Hardwick Hall and the Peak District make useful excursions. Most visits need half a day or one night.
