Blacksburg is a college town of about 40,000 in Southwest Virginia, built around Virginia Tech. The walkable core is campus plus downtown, both doable in a day. Most visitors come for a game weekend, a campus visit, or as a base for the Blue Ridge Parkway and New River. It is a stop, not a week-long destination.

Blacksburg Transit (BT) buses are free for everyone and cover town and campus. Downtown is a short walk from most of campus. A car helps for the Cascades, Pandapas Pond and the Blue Ridge Parkway.
