TenggolPulau Tenggol

Go for 2–3 nights if you dive or want a quiet island with no cars; skip if you need nightlife, ATMs or easy day-trip access.

Tenggol is the least developed of Terengganu's islands — no shops, no cars, no ATMs. Its draw is diving (some say the best on the peninsula) and empty beaches on the west side. You need to pre-arrange everything: transfer, meals, accommodation. Best for travellers who want a simple, quiet escape, not a resort holiday.

Door to door: About 1 h

Boat transfer from Tenggol (check with your resort)

Possible as a day trip if arranged, but most visitors choose one island.

Door to door: About 2–2.5 h

Boat to mainland jetty, then taxi (about 1 h boat + 1 h road)

Use as your entry/exit point; day trip is too long.

Door to door: About 30–45 min

Smaller, quieter island; combine only if you have time.

Watch out

Safety

Tenggol is safe; the main risks are strong currents at some dive sites and the lack of medical facilities — serious issues require a boat to the mainland.
  • No ATMs, no shops: bring enough cash for extras (check if your package includes meals).
  • Ground water is unsafe to drink; only drink bottled or resort-provided water.
  • Resorts may not serve food to day-trippers, especially on busy weekends.
  • Dive sites beyond 18 m require Advanced certification; check with your dive centre.
