Driggs is a small Teton Valley town on the Idaho side of the Tetons, about 33 mi (53 km) and 45 min by car from Jackson, Wyoming. It works as a lower-cost base for Grand Teton and Yellowstone, for fly-fishing and river floats on the Teton River, and for winter snowmobile tours. You need a car: downtown is a few blocks, everything else is spread along Highway 33.

Getting around

A car is effectively required. Downtown Driggs is walkable in 10 minutes, but trailheads, river put-ins, Tetonia and the Wyoming border are all a drive. No useful public transit; taxis and rideshare are thin, so book shuttles with outfitters in advance. Winter tyres or AWD are worth it from November to March.

Driggs is a low-crime small town; the real risks are winter driving over Teton Pass, wildlife on the roads at dawn and dusk, and cold-water river trips without a guide.
  • Teton Pass (WY-22) closes in winter storms and for avalanche control: check WYDOT 511 before committing.
  • Cell coverage drops in the national forest and along the Teton River; download offline maps.
  • Wildlife on the roads at dawn and dusk: moose and deer on Highway 33.
  • Altitude is about 6,100 ft (1,860 m): hydrate on day one.
