Winslow is a small Route 66 town on I-40 in Northern Arizona, about 150 miles from Phoenix and an hour east of Flagstaff. The town itself is a short stop — the Eagles corner, a restored Harvey House hotel, a small museum — but it sits within reach of Meteor Crater, Homolovi pueblos and Petrified Forest. Most travellers sleep one night and drive on.

Getting around

Winslow is a driving town: I-40 runs through it and most sights sit outside the centre. Downtown is walkable in 10–15 minutes. City transit is limited to town limits; a rental car desk sits at I-40 Exit 257. Amtrak drops you at La Posada, so a car-free one-night stop works if you stay downtown.

Safety

Winslow is a small, quiet town and generally safe for visitors. The real risks are desert heat and long empty drives: carry water, fuel up before side trips, and don't leave valuables in a parked car at trailheads.
  • Summer afternoons regularly pass 35 °C; carry water and do outdoor sights before 11:00.
  • Meteor Crater and Homolovi are outside town — no bus, you need a car or a tour.
  • Amtrak's Winslow stop has no ticket office or machine: buy before you travel.
  • Arizona does not observe daylight saving; times stay fixed against the rest of the state.
