Boquete is a small highland town in Chiriquí at about 1,200 m, built for coffee, cloud-forest hikes and cool nights. English is widely spoken and prices sit above the Panamanian average. Getting around
The centre is walkable, but pavements are broken in places. Local vans and buses leave from near the Casa Bruna supermarket and loop up to Bajo Mono, Alto Quiel, Arco Iris and Volcancito; the stop is in front of a strawberry stand, not a building. Taxis are short-hop cheap. Rent a 4WD for mountain roads — they wash out — and avoid driving at night, as there are no safe shoulders.
