Morong is a small coastal town on the northwest coast of the Bataan peninsula, about 3–4 hours by road from Manila. It is known for a long stretch of grey-sand beach at Nagbalayong, a sea-turtle conservation centre, the never-operated Bataan Nuclear Power Plant, and a cluster of Vietnamese restaurants left over from the refugee-processing years. Most visitors come for a weekend resort stay rather than sightseeing.

Getting around

Tricycles are the main way to move between barangays and to the beach strip; agree the fare before you get in. There is no reliable local bus network inside town, so most resort guests arrange transfers or rent a van. Roads from Bagac and from Olongapo are two-lane, winding and mostly unlit at night.

Safety

Morong is a small town and generally calm for tourists who stay in resorts and use tricycles or arranged vans. The main risks are road accidents on unlit highways and landslides in the rainy season; beach water can be rough and most stretches have no lifeguards (check).
  • Parts of Morong are prone to landslides in the rainy season; check local advisories before travelling in Jul–Sep.
  • The road from Olongapo (SBMA–Morong Road) is unlit at night and passes through jungle; avoid arriving after dark if you can.
  • The Bataan Nuclear Power Plant is only visitable by pre-arranged guided tour; do not expect walk-in entry.
  • The Pawikan Conservation Center is closed outside the sea-turtle breeding season; check before you go.
  • Beach water can be rough and there are no lifeguards on most stretches; swim near other people.
