Manacor is the inland market town that governs the east coast resorts, 50 min by bus or just over an hour by train from Palma. Tourists are sparse and few stop over, so it is cheap for Mallorca and useful as a base for the Drach caves, the Llevant coast and the Rafa Nadal Academy. Most travellers see it as a half-day or a single night, not a holiday.

Getting around

The centre is small enough to walk: station to the parish church is about 10 min. TIB buses 401, 411, 412 and 417 link the town with the coast and neighbouring villages, but you may not ride the airport bus A42 on the local Manacor–Cala Bona section. A car helps for the caves, the Ma-15 and the country hotels; roads are good and distances suit cycling.

Watch out

Safety

Manacor is a working town and feels safe by day and evening; the real risks are summer heat, long siesta closures and unlit rural roads if you cycle after dark.
  • Shops and sights close for a long midday break, often 13:30–17:00; plan mornings and early evening.
  • Some town-centre venues and bars have closed or changed hands since 2024: check before you walk out.
  • July and August are hot and the coast resorts fill; book beds and cave tickets ahead.
  • The airport bus A42 cannot be used for the local hop between Manacor and Cala Bona.
