Sleepy Hollow is a small Hudson Valley village, about 35–40 minutes by Metro-North from Grand Central, that lives off one Washington Irving story. The sights sit within a walkable mile along Route 9, and the village itself has no hotel, so most travellers base in Tarrytown next door and treat Sleepy Hollow as a half-day or full-day stop. October is the busiest month by far.

On foot along Broadway (Route 9) and Beekman Avenue if you stay central; the Old Dutch Church, the cemetery and Philipsburg Manor are all within about a mile of each other. Metro-North Hudson line serves Tarrytown and Philipse Manor (Sleepy Hollow) stations. A car helps for Kykuit, Union Church of Pocantico Hills and Stone Barns, which sit east of Route 9.
