Give Alcoy one full day plus a night: the Modernist centre and Moors and Christians museum are worth it; skip it if you want beaches or big-city nightlife.
Alcoy (Valencian: Alcoi) is an inland industrial city of about 60,000 people in Alicante province, built on textile money in the 19th century. Its historic centre is dense with Modernist buildings, it stages Spain's largest Moors and Christians festival each April, and it sits between two mountain parks. Trains and buses reach it from Valencia and Alicante, but it is not on the coast and most travellers pass it by.

Getting around
The centre is walkable end to end in about 20 minutes. Subus Alcoi runs six urban bus routes; a single ride is paid in cash to the driver and a ten-ride Multiviaje card is sold at convenience shops. Taxis cover the outskirts and the parks' trailheads.
