Rainy River is a town of about 800 people on the Ontario-Minnesota border, where Highway 11 ends at the bridge to Baudette, Minnesota. There is one real sight nearby (the Manitou Mounds, 33 km east), a supermarket, a bakery and a handful of beds. Come for the border, the walleye water or the mounds; do not come for a town.

Getting around

You need a car. Highway 11 runs through town as Atwood Avenue and ends at the Baudette bridge; Highway 71 north to Kenora branches from the area. There is no useful local transit, and the sights outside town are 30 km or more away.
