Ashland is a small Rogue Valley town whose calendar is set by the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, which runs roughly February to November with no Monday performances. Downtown and Lithia Park sit within a 15-minute walk of most beds, so a car is optional once you arrive. Two nights covers a play plus the park and a winery; one night is enough for a meal and a stroll on a road trip.

Getting around

The centre is walkable: Plaza to Lithia Park is under 10 minutes on foot. Rogue Valley Transportation District buses run one end of town to the other on weekdays only, roughly 5:30am–7pm, about $2 a ride (check). Parking downtown is free but fills on show nights.

Safety

Ashland is a low-crime small town; the real risks are summer heat, smoke from regional wildfires, and dark unlit stretches of the Greenway path at night.
  • Summer afternoons hit 38°C/100°F; walk Lithia Park in the morning.
  • Downtown parking is tight on evenings when the festival has a show — every night except Monday in season.
  • Ashland adds a 5% local tax on prepared food, unusual for Oregon.
