Enderby is a town of about 3,000 on Highway 97A, 80 km north of Kelowna and 130 km east of Kamloops, where the Shuswap River forms the eastern edge. It is a base for the Enderby Cliffs hike, river floats and the Mabel Lake and Mara Lake country, not a sightseeing town. Most trips give it one night or use it as a lunch and river stop on the Vernon–Salmon Arm run.

Getting around

Enderby itself is small enough to walk. BC Transit runs a Vernon–Armstrong–Enderby route Monday to Saturday, about 65 min from Vernon and 28 min from Armstrong, and a Wednesday-only route to Salmon Arm. For the cliffs trailhead, the lakes and the golf courses you need a car; Highway 97A is the spine.

Watch out

Safety

Enderby is a small, low-crime town and feels safe day and night. The real risks are outdoor: river currents, heat and exposure on the cliffs trail, wildlife on back roads, and summer wildfire smoke.
  • No rideshare and no taxi rank to count on: plan your last bus or drive yourself.
  • The Enderby Cliffs trailhead is at the north end of Brash Allen Road with limited parking; go early on summer weekends.
  • River currents and cold water: float with a life jacket and check local conditions before you launch.
  • Wildfire smoke and closures can hit the North Okanagan in July and August; check BC Wildfire and DriveBC before you drive.
  • Cell coverage is patchy on the back roads toward Mabel Lake.
