Bridge of Allan is a small Victorian spa town of about 5,400 people in Stirlingshire, 4 minutes by train from Stirling and under the Wallace Monument. The compact main street is walkable in 10–15 minutes, but the town's sights are thin: most travellers use it as a quieter, cheaper bed for Stirling, the Ochils and the Darn Walk to Dunblane.

Getting around

The village is compact and mostly flat: main street, station and river are 10–15 minutes on foot. Bus 54 (McGill's) runs every 20 min between Stirling, the village and the university. Trains to Stirling take 4 minutes and run every 30 min. A car helps for the Ochils and Lecropt Kirk.

Safety

A low-crime small town; the real risks are traffic on the A9 through the village, uneven riverside paths on the Darn Walk, and weather turning on the Ochils.
  • The station is an unstaffed halt with ticket machines only; buy before you board.
  • Long-distance coaches do not stop here: change in Stirling.
  • Wallace Monument is on Abbey Craig, a steep walk up; the path is not step-free.
  • Some eateries close early on Sundays and Mondays: check before you walk out.
