Leverburgh is a village of about 200 people on the south coast of Harris, 20 miles (32 km) from Tarbert along the A859 and the closest port for St Kilda day trips. Most travellers pass through on the CalMac ferry from Berneray or on the Hebridean Way; the village itself is small, so one night covers it and two nights only make sense if you are waiting for a St Kilda sailing window.

Getting around
No local buses beyond the W10 spine route and the W13 east-coast school service, so a car or bike is the practical way to reach beaches and Rodel. Harris Cycle Hire is based at Sorrel Cottage in Leverburgh. The A859 links Leverburgh to Tarbert in about 45 min by bus; the Golden Road east-coast lane is a slow, twisting drive.

Safety
- Mobile coverage is patchy or absent across south Harris; download maps and tickets before you leave Tarbert.
- Fuel and groceries are limited: the community shop is the main option, with a 24-hour filling station.
- St Kilda trips sail only in calm weather and need a two-day availability window; book ahead and expect cancellations.
- Many B&Bs and cafés close from October to April; check opening before travelling in winter.
- Single-track roads with passing places: pull in for oncoming traffic and do not park in passing places.
