Lahti is Finland's eighth-largest city, an hour by train from Helsinki and built around the Salpausselkä esker and Lake Vesijärvi. It is a sports town first — ski jumping, skiing, a stadium and forest trails — with a rebuilt harbour, a wooden concert hall and a small museum cluster. Most visitors come for a day from Helsinki or as a stop on the way north; two nights is enough to see it properly.

LSL buses run from Kauppatori in both directions, €3.20 adult and €1.60 child per ride, with mobile tickets on the Waltti app. City bikes (Freebike) and Tier/Voi e-scooters cover the centre in summer.
