Calabogie is a tiny village on Calabogie Lake in Greater Madawaska Township, Renfrew County, at the edge of the Ottawa Valley. It draws mostly Ottawa–Gatineau visitors for skiing at Calabogie Peaks, track days at Calabogie Motorsports Park and summer lake time. There is no train and no local bus, so you need a car. One night covers the village; two nights if you ski or drive the track.

Getting around

Car only. The Kingston & Pembroke railway is gone and the tracks are removed; the closest intercity bus stop is in Renfrew. From Highway 417 take the Renfrew exit and head southwest on Calabogie Road (old Hwy 508). In winter, snow tires and a scraper are not optional.

Safety

Very safe for a small Ontario village. The real risks are winter driving on Calabogie Road and Highway 511, thin cell coverage on back roads, and lake ice that is never safe to trust without local confirmation.
  • No train and no local bus: without a car you are stuck.
  • Winter driving on Calabogie Road and Highway 511 can be icy; check conditions before leaving Renfrew or Arnprior.
  • Cell coverage drops on the back roads toward Griffith and Matawatchan.
  • Ski, golf and track dates are seasonal and weather-dependent: confirm before booking.
