Torrance
Base here 2 nights only if you have a car and want LAX-close suburb calm; otherwise day-trip from the beach cities.
Torrance is a large South Bay suburb of Los Angeles, about 3 km south of LAX on the I-405, with a big Japanese and Korean community, a huge mall and a clean local beach. It is a practical, car-first base for LAX arrivals and beach-city days, not a sightseeing destination in itself. Two nights covers it; one night works if you only need the airport.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
- United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
- United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
- United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.

Getting around
A car or rideshare is the practical choice: LA Metro, Torrance Transit and GTrans all serve the city on the TAP card, but coverage is thin and trips are slow. Hawthorne Blvd and the I-405 are the main north–south and east–west routes. Parking at Del Amo is free; beach parking fills by late morning in summer.

Watch out
Safety
- Crime here is mostly property crime — car break-ins and shoplifting; do not leave bags visible in a parked car.
- Eastern Torrance and the Del Amo mall area see occasional violent incidents; keep normal city awareness at night.
- Hawthorne Blvd carries fast traffic and frequent collisions; cross at signals only.
- Summer mornings bring a marine layer that can sit until noon; the beach is often grey while inland is hot.
