Midland is a small Central Michigan city built around Dow Chemical, with an unusual concentration of architecture and gardens for its size. Two walkable clusters — downtown and the Eastman Road museum-and-gardens strip — cover almost everything, and a car is needed for the airport and the nature centre. Most travellers pass through for a day or use it as a quiet stop between Flint, Saginaw and Mount Pleasant.
