SalisburySalisbury, Maryland
Give Salisbury one night as a Route 13 stop or a wet-day base for the Eastern Shore; two nights only if you add the zoo, a museum and a day trip.
Salisbury is the largest city on Maryland's Eastern Shore and a crossroads rather than a sightseeing town: US 13 runs north-south, US 50 runs east to Ocean City and west over the Bay Bridge to Annapolis and Washington. Most travellers use it for a bed, a mall, a free zoo and a university campus, then drive on. It works best as a one-night break on the coastal run or as a rainy-day fallback when the beach is washed out.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
- United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
- United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
- United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.

Getting around
A car is the practical choice: the sights, the mall and the zoo sit along US 13 and US 50, and walking between them is not realistic. Downtown is walkable once you park. There is no local rail; Shore Transit runs limited bus routes, so check timetables before relying on them.

Watch out
Safety
- US 13 and US 50 are commercial strips with fast traffic and few crossings: drive between stops rather than walk them.
- Summer weekends put heavy beach traffic on US 50 east toward Ocean City; leave early.
- The Bay Bridge can back up badly on Friday and Sunday afternoons in season.
- Some downtown blocks are quiet after dark; park in lit lots and walk in pairs.
