Winter Garden
Base here only if you want a walkable small-town evening after Orlando's parks: 1 night, or a half-day on the West Orange Trail plus Plant Street.
Winter Garden is an Orange County town 14 mi west of downtown Orlando, on the shore of Lake Apopka. Its draw is a compact downtown on Plant Street: a restored brick main street, a year-round Saturday farmers market, an indoor food hall with a brewery, and the 22-mile West Orange Trail running through it. It is a suburb, not a resort: most visitors come for an evening or a half-day between park days, and it works as a cheaper, quieter bed base for the west side of Greater Orlando.

Getting around
Downtown is small enough to walk. Everything else — Lake Apopka, the shopping centres, the parks — needs a car. Lynx Link 105 runs hourly between downtown Orlando's Lynx Central Station and the Winter Garden Shopping Center on SR-50; LakeXpress 50 continues west into Lake County. The two systems meet at the same stop but do not through-run.
