Baqubahبعقوبة

One day covers Baqubah: the central mosques and Ba'quba Stadium. Go in daylight with transport arranged; skip it if you want sights, not a city.

Baqubah is the capital of Diyala Governorate, about 60 km northeast of Baghdad in the Baghdad Belts. It is a working Iraqi city of roughly 468,000 people with dozens of mosques and a stadium, not a sightseeing town. Half a day to a day is enough, and only as part of a wider Iraq plan.

Watch out

Safety

Baqubah sits in the Baghdad Belts and has seen past militant activity. Daylight visits with arranged transport are the norm; check your government's current advice before committing, and do not plan independent late-night movement.
  • Security in Diyala can change quickly: read your government's Iraq travel advice before you book anything.
  • Do not move after dark; arrange your ride back before sunset.
  • No US consulate here: the nearest is Erbil, most embassies are in Baghdad.

  3. Place pages with verified cutoffs for the main mosques and the stadium.
  4. Hostile-arrival fixtures so gates A–D can go green.
