Trinidad is the lowland capital of Beni, hot and flat, with a small-town centre, a Jesuit-founded cathedral on the plaza and pre-Hispanic earthwork sites on its edge. It works as a stop between Santa Cruz and the Amazon towns, or as a base for river and pampas trips. It is not a headline Bolivia destination, and the roads in are long and partly unpaved.

Getting around

Motorbike taxis (moto taxis) are the main way around town and cost a few bolivianos; regular taxis exist but are fewer. The centre is walkable in the cooler hours. For Loma Suárez or the fish museum, take a moto taxi and agree the fare first.

Watch out

Safety

Trinidad is generally calm for travellers; the practical risks are heat, mosquitoes, long road journeys in the wet season and unlit streets at night. Keep valuables out of sight and use moto taxis you have agreed a price with.
  • Heat and humidity: plan sights for early morning and late afternoon.
  • Rainy season (Dec–Mar) can flood roads and delay buses; keep a buffer day.
  • Museum hours are short and change; confirm before you go.
  • Some sites outside town are on private or military land and may ask for ID.
  • Mosquitoes near rivers and lagoons: repellent.
