Give Stowmarket half a day, not a night: the Museum of East Anglian Life and the Thursday or Saturday market are the reasons to stop.
Stowmarket is a small market town in Suffolk, 85 minutes from London by train and 10–15 minutes from Ipswich. The open-air Museum of East Anglian Life is the one sight worth planning around; the rest is a compact high street, a bi-weekly street market and a handful of pubs. Most travellers see it as a stop on the Norwich–London line or a base for mid-Suffolk, not a destination in itself.

- The last train back from Ipswich or Norwich is early evening: check the timetable before you plan a night out elsewhere.
- The bi-weekly market runs Thursday and Saturday only, 8AM–4PM; other days the square is just a square.
