Mambucaba
Skip Mambucaba unless you are hiking the Trilha do Ouro or want a quick beach stop on the Rio-Santos highway: half a day is enough.
Mambucaba is a small colonial-era port village on the Costa Verde, now a beach town that swells with day-trippers on summer weekends. Its old village has a handful of preserved colonial houses and a 19th-century church. Most travellers pass through on the BR-101 between Paraty and Angra dos Reis; the beach is fine but not remarkable. The main reason to stop is the end of the Trilha do Ouro trail from Serra da Bocaina National Park.
