Terrace Bay
Stop one night on the Highway 17 drive: lighthouse, Aguasabon Falls boardwalk and the beach fill an afternoon; Slate Islands need a charter and a full day.
Terrace Bay is a small mill town on the north shore of Lake Superior, about 2 h northeast of Thunder Bay on the Trans-Canada Highway. The built-up area is roughly 3 km by 3 km and walkable. It works as a one-night break on the Lake Superior loop, with the Aguasabon Falls boardwalk, a 15 m lighthouse replica and a sand beach as the core stops. The Slate Islands, 13 km offshore, are the reason some travellers stay two nights: access is by local charter only, so the trip depends on weather and boat availability.

Getting around
Walk or bike: the town is about 3 km across and there is no taxi or bus service. Park at the Tourist Information Centre, pick up a paper map and start from there. A vehicle can be rented from the local car dealership if you need one. Highway 17 is the only road link; distances are long and fuel stops are sparse between Nipigon and Marathon.
