São Pedro do Sul
Half a day for the fossil museum and petrified trees; not a base unless you are on a Paleorrota Geopark tour. One night if you want to dig deeper.
São Pedro do Sul is a small town in the Central West of Rio Grande do Sul, part of the Paleorrota Geopark. Its main draws are the Walter Ilha Paleontological and Archeological Museum, the Ermita excavation site and the plaza with exposed petrified trees. Most travellers pass through on a road trip between Santa Maria and the border; the town itself is quiet and best for a short stop.
