Astorga is a small walled town of about 10,600 people on the French Way to Santiago, 43 km southwest of León. Its old centre holds a Gaudí bishop's palace, a cathedral, Roman remains and a chocolate museum, all inside a 15-minute walk. Most travellers sleep one night, arriving by bus or train from León or Madrid.
