Puerto Galera is the closest beach-and-reef break from Manila: bus to Batangas, then a 1-hour fast ferry to Balatero Port. The town itself is only a ferry terminal with ATMs and a market; almost everyone sleeps at Sabang (diving, nightlife) or White Beach (sand, families). Three nights covers two dive days or one beach day plus a waterfall run.

Getting around

Tricycles are the main transport between the port, town and beaches; agree the fare before you get in. Walking works inside each beach area. Scooters rent in Sabang for about ₱500 a day; roads are steep, winding and shared with trucks.

Watch out

Safety

Reef and road are the real risks: currents on drift dives, scooters on the zigzag, and unlit beach paths at night. Petty theft is rare; use the hotel safe and keep cash split.
  • Ferries can sell out on Sundays and holidays — buy a round trip when you arrive.
  • Crossings get rough when the tides meet; the second half of the Batangas–Puerto Galera run can be bumpy.
  • ATMs run out of cash in peak season; carry pesos from Manila.
  • Tricycle touts at the port quote far above the official rate — bargain or walk to the road.
  • Brownouts happen in typhoon season; most resorts have generators.
