Edmond is a suburb of about 81,000 people 20–30 minutes north of downtown Oklahoma City, on the old Route 66 alignment and I-35. It is not a sightseeing town: its draw is a walkable downtown strip of restaurants and taprooms, a university campus, a lake for swimming and trails, and free Citylink buses. Most travellers use it as a cheaper, quieter bed base for Oklahoma City, or skip it entirely.

Getting around

You need a car for almost everything except downtown. Citylink runs free buses Monday–Friday with some Saturday routes, and a 100x Expresslink goes to downtown Oklahoma City; the transfer centre is at Festival Market Place, one block west of Broadway on 1st Street. Bike lanes and trails cover parts of town, and Lime scooters are available downtown.

Edmond is a low-crime suburb and generally safe on foot downtown in the evening. The real risks are driving after drinking, summer heat, and spring tornado warnings — check the forecast and know your shelter.
