Lida

Half a day is enough: see Lida Castle, the brewery museum and the baroque church, then move on. One night if you want a relaxed dinner and a morning walk.

Lida is a compact transport hub in western Belarus with one standout sight — the 14th-century Lida Castle — plus a brewery museum and a baroque church. Most travellers stop here for a few hours between Minsk and Grodno, or as a base for exploring nearby castles and towns.

  • Europe ↗Non-EU visitors get 90 days in any rolling 180-day window, counted across all 29 Schengen states together — not per country; the Entry/Exit System now logs each crossing, so an overstay is detected automatically.
  • Europe ↗On the first Schengen entry since EES began, non-EU travellers give four fingerprints and a face photo at the border instead of a passport stamp; there is nothing to apply for or pay in advance.
  • Eastern Europe ↗Reach this subregion only from the EU side — Romania for Moldova — through crossings run by recognised authorities; no route through Ukraine, Belarus or Russia is planned here.
  • Eastern Europe ↗Re-read your government's advice for Moldova (it covers Transnistria) in the week you travel; the situation next door changes fast.
  • Eastern Europe ↗Carry euros in cash for Transnistria and village Moldova; cards stop working at the Dniester.
  • Belarus ↗Check your own government travel advice for Belarus before any booking; advice depends on your passport and changes without notice.
  • Belarus ↗Land crossings from Poland, Lithuania and Latvia open and close on short notice; confirm the crossing on the day with that country's border guard.
  • Belarus ↗Confirm that your travel insurance and medical evacuation cover apply to Belarus before you rely on it.

Safety

Lida is generally safe for tourists. Usual precautions: watch your belongings in crowded buses, avoid poorly lit areas at night, and follow your government's travel advice for Belarus.
  • Buses are faster than trains between Lida and Minsk or Grodno; check the schedule.
  • Lida Castle may have limited hours in winter; check the official site.
  • Carry cash (BYN); cards are accepted in larger shops but not everywhere.
