Sipalay

Go for 3 nights if you want quiet beaches and diving; skip if you need nightlife or fast connections — Sipalay is a 3–4 h bus from Bacolod or Dumaguete.

Sipalay is a quiet coastal city on the southern coast of Negros Occidental, known for white-sand beaches, coral reefs and the Coca Cola wreck dive site. It draws locals from Bacolod and Dumaguete for weekend getaways but sees few foreign tourists. Most visitors stay 2–3 nights, diving by day and resting by night. The town itself is small; the main beach area, Sugar Beach, is about 5 km north.

Watch out

Safety

Sipalay is generally safe; petty crime is rare. Watch your belongings on buses and at the beach. The main risks are road accidents on the coastal highway and jellyfish during certain months — ask locals before swimming.
  • No ATMs at Sugar Beach; withdraw cash in town or in Kabankalan before arriving.
  • Diving conditions depend on weather: check with local shops during rainy season.
  • Power outages happen occasionally; bring a power bank.
