Colwyn Bay is a north Wales coast town on the A55 and the Holyhead rail line, about an hour by car from Liverpool and Manchester. The 5 km bay, the hillside zoo and Bryn Euryn hill are the reasons to stop; the pier is closed and the town centre is ordinary. Most travellers see it as a half-day or one-night add-on to Llandudno, Conwy or Snowdonia, not a holiday in itself.

The town is walkable: station to promenade is about 10 min downhill. Arriva buses run along the coast to Rhyl, Llandudno and Conwy; a Day Rover ticket covers several trips. Trains link Colwyn Bay with Llandudno Junction, Conwy, Bangor and Holyhead. A car makes the zoo, Bryn Euryn and the Conwy Valley much easier.
