Guararema
Half-day stop between São Paulo and São José dos Campos: walk the historic centre, cross the iron bridge and eat river fish. Not worth an overnight unless you want a quiet weekend.
Guararema is a small town in the Grande São Paulo region that invested heavily in tourism. Its main draw is a compact historic core around the old train station, an iron bridge over the Paraíba do Sul river and a few riverside restaurants. Most visitors come from São Paulo (about 1 h by car) for a lunch stop or a short afternoon walk.
